The goal of Terminal Talk is to make the mainframe less threatening and more accessible by chatting with some of the best and brightest in the field about the mainframe and why they love it.
VMS Software, Inc. Announces First Boot on x86 Architecture.
OpenVMS First Boot on x86 - 14 May, 2019 2:15 EDT
Significant step towards VSI’s new OpenVMS x86 product
Bolton, MA USA, May 20, 2019- VMS Software Inc. (VSI) is pleased to announce OpenVMS First Boot on the x86 architecture. This important achievement is a major step towards giving OpenVMS users the ability to operate on modern x86 hardware or in the Cloud.
“It has been a long journey to get here and we will now be moving rapidly to the V9.0 Early Developer Kit and then to full system operation said Clair Grant, VSI’s CTO. Grant continued, “There is still much more work to do before getting to a full production system for general customer release. With large areas of the operating system's internal capabilities now operational, we will be continually bringing up more components to round out the system in preparation for versions V9.1 and V9.2."
OpenVMS on x86 gives customers a path into the future with new versions of the operating system on industry-standard x86 hardware platforms and as a virtual machine guest on those systems. User applications, with extremely few exceptions, will compile, link, and run on x86 systems without modification.

eCube Systems Announces NXTera 7.1 Cloud-Enabled Entera RPC Middleware Certified on Suse Linux Enterprise 12
eCube Systems, a leading provider of middleware modernization, integration and management solutions, announced the release of NXTera™ 7.1 High Performance RPC Middleware for SUSE Linux Enterprise 12. NXTera 7.1 is the official Borland sanctioned replacement middleware for Entera and includes modern tools for DevOps, advanced naming services with NAT support, JDBC database access for Entera servers, Eclipse workbench for COBOL, FORTRAN, C and C# language integration; and webservice enhancements to its generation of C, C# and JAVA services interfaces and clients.
With the addition of SUSE LinuxEnterprise 12, NXTera now supports the broadest OS platforms in the industry and can make inter-platform migration or legacy modernization much easier. NXTera Workbench is now integrated into the NXTware platform for seamless, distributed agile development and DevOps functionality with NXTmonitor. New server stub generators for BASIC, COBOL, C, C#, FORTRAN and Java enable enterprise developers to create multi-tier, multi-language applications with both RPC and Web Services connectors.
“As more platforms like Solaris, AIX and HP-UX disappear, developers turn to linux to meet their needs for agile development and NXTera continues to expand to different platforms”, says Kevin Barnes President and CEO of eCube Systems. “Extending the ROI of legacy applications to newer technologies and integration with new languages is key to helping drive IT innovation."
In addition to making NXTera developer commands available on SUSE linux, NXTera 7.1 simplifies legacy to contemporary integration projects with new Eclipse development tools. These include intelligent editors, a new Web services debugger, wsdebug; an automated IDL generation tool, defgen; and support for IBM COBOL, C#, and FORTRAN in the rpcmake IDL compiler for native stub generation.
With every new release, NXTera continues to expand its capabilities with new features and improved tooling. In NXTera 7.1 there are improvements to the integration with Eclipse Remote projects that generates C#, Visual Basic.NET, Java, or Web services connectors for C, COBOL, FORTRAN and BASIC business logic. The generated code can be used in Microsoft Visual Studio or Eclipse to create service interfaces to legacy business logic for use in enterprise, Web and mobile applications.
NXTera 7.1 servers run on and is certified for these latest versions of: Linux (Suse, Ubuntu and fedora), Windows 2003 and 2008, zOS (zLinux,) Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, IBM AS/400 and HP OpenVMS. NXTera 7.1 clients can run on Windows, Mac and most flavors of linux. Additionally, NXTera supports both the Microsoft, IBM and Apache AXIS2 Web services application stacks.

Mimer Improves The Real-Time Capabilities
Mimer Information Technology today announces that the company improves the Mimer SQL’s real-time capabilities. With Mimer SQL Real-Time it is possible to share real-time data and non-real time data at run-time using one single database manager. This opens up a new field in industrial application development, where efficient and predictable real-time data access can be seamlessly combined with administrative databases.
Mimer SQL Real-Time is a predictable, scalable and zero maintenance database management system with hard deterministic real-time guarantees. Mimer SQL Real-Time is intended for both critical real-time embedded systems as well as for applications that require high performance data management.
With unrivalled performance and hard real-time predictability, Mimer SQL Real-Time manages all your application data, such as sensor/actuator data, logs, trends, parameters, and administrative data in one data storage. Data can be accessed in real-time using our unique Mimer SQL Real-Time API. Administrative data access of all data (including real-time data) can be performed using any standard SQL interface.
The real-time kernel support advanced aggregation of real-time values. Thus it is easy to create a history of what has happened in the real-time environment. This can be focused on critical events and/or be a log for maintenance analysis etc. The aggregated values are stored in Mimer SQL so a transition from hard real-time to soft real-time takes place during the aggregation. The functionality is built so that aggregation can be added to an existing system and does not affect how sensors/actuators interact with the system.
Mimer SQL Real-Time is especially targeting automotive, process automation, robotics, military applications, and medical/health-care systems.
By using Mimer SQL Real-Time, our customers and partners can be sure that all critical systems and applications will perform predictably, even at peak-load conditions.
