Overview restAssured provides a scale-out environment for automated and on-demand backup integrity and restore testing. It allows you to create fully autonomous trigger based restore tests based on user-defined test flowcharts, with in-depth content analysis. With restAssured you will know exactly if your backups are usable when needed to restore your business functionality

The Challenge

The backup solutions available on the market use a technology called checksum testing to check if a backup was created successfully. With a backup checksum test the only guarantee you have is that the backup data is identical to the source (production) data. This means that if your database has data integrity issues, your backup has them too. If your departmental share has viruses, your backup has them too. This is why companies need to do restore testing to ensure their backup data is usable in case of need. Extensive restore testing is expensive as it takes considerable time, planning, resources, guidelines and quality preparation. These are the main reasons why less then 30% of the companies worldwide perform these restore tests on a regular basis.

The Solution

Once access to your backup environment(s) is configured in restAssured it will gather all needed backup information available. Depending on the size of the environment you may deploy as many workers(*) as needed to define your restore test bandwidth. (The more workers deployed, the more backups can be tested simultaneously). With the use of pre-defined or user created test flowcharts restore testing will be performed without human intervention. restAssured can output the test-results in various ways(**) to facilitate integration with any monitoring system to allow swift action in case of negative test results.
